English/Language Arts

  • Curriculet: (formerly Gobstopper)  Online reading assignments and comprehension assessments.  Create your own "curriculet" or choose from one that is already created.  Recently updated to include many new features including the ability to upload your own files!
  • OpenClass: Create an interactive learning environment for your classes.  This site offers so many options: create your own course, manage and shape your course, and easily add content.  Definitely worth a look!
  • Evernote: Great note taking tool.  Allows user to create different notebooks to help organize notes.  Great use for organization of a student's course work.
  • NoRedInk: Grammar Practice lessons and quizzes.  Set up classes for your students and assign lessons and/or quizzes for grades.  Track your students' progress with the built in student tracker.  Great site and free!
  • LearnZillion: video resources for ELA to supplement your teaching.  Common Core Standards aligned.
  • KnowMia:  Search video resources to supplement your classroom instruction.
  • WriteAboutThis: (iPad app).  Use of photos to inspire students to write.  Students can choose from categories or create their own inspiration photo; then share their writings with teachers and/or parents.
  • Hippocampus: Free educational resources.  Create a customized playlist for your students.
  • FunEnglishGames: This site hosts lots of games to enhance grammar and reading comprehension skills for students in grades K-8.

  • Geogebra and Geogebratube: An interactive  math app that focuses on algebra and geometry.  
  • AdaptedMind: Math practice for students in grades 1-6.  Students receive badges as they master math skills. (Although the site says to sign up for a "free trial" it is FREE for public school teachers- up to 35 students.)

  • LearnZillion: video resources for Math to supplement your teaching.  Common Core Standards aligned.

  • Science For Kids: Improve science skills through interactive games.  Most games are aimed for students grades K-8.

Social Studies

  • TeachingHistory.org: A site dedicated to teaching history using primary sources.  The site is categorized by Teaching Materials, History Content, and Best Practices.  Quicklinks by grade level are also provided.
  • YadaYadaYada: Teach economic concepts through the use of Seinfeld clips.  This site is lots of fun!  
  • EconEdLink- Economic and finance resources/lessons for K-12 students
  • World Geography Games- lots of games from different categories: world flags, earth, atmosphere, states, countries, etc.
General
  • Backpack Practice: A "study guide" option for students using voice commands.  
  • Blendspace: A practical tool that aids in blended learning.  Allows user to house multiple resources in one place, track learning, and assess learning.
  • Chatzy: A backchanneling site but with many more bells and whistles than Today'sMeet offers.
  • Easypolls: Meant for use as a polling tool, but another idea . . . set up questions for your students to test their level of comprehension on a topic (bell ringer or exit ticket).  Easy to use, for sure.
  • Educlipper: From the creator of Edutecher, Educlipper is basically Pinterest for educators.
  • Educreations: It is a digital whiteboard: create your own lessons or just view lessons made by others.  The app allows for reinforcement and/or enrichment of curriculum for your students.
  • Edutecher: Looking for new Web2.0 sites/apps?  Eductecher is a great place to start.  Search apps by grade level or subject and watch tutorials of apps you're interested in.

  • Flippity: convert a google spreadsheet into flashcards in 4 simple steps.  Then share with students so they can study.
  • InfuseLearning: In its simplest form, it is a student response system that runs in real time and allows a teacher to ask questions and check for comprehension through interactive means.  Coolest feature: translates audio into different languages!  Oh, but it is SOOO much more than that.  Check it out!!!
  • Kahoot!: A student response system that allows for creation of quizzes, discussion questions, and surveys.  It has a very game-like feel. 
  • Meograph: Excellent site to create digital storytelling for any subject matter.  Has the ability to use voice, images, videos, google maps and more.   Beneficial for all classrooms.
  • Padlet: Create a collaborative "wall" and use it in your classroom.  Browse the gallery for great classroom applications of Padlet.
  • PixiClip: An interactive whiteboard for your Chrome Book.  Allows for voice and video recording to make your online lesson tutorials more effective.
  • Problem Attic: Quickly create your own "standardized test" using questions from NY Regents, State Assessments, and/or academic competitions.
  • Screencastify: Record video directly from your Chrome browser.  Perfect for Chromebooks.  Upload finished product to YouTube or just house in your Google Drive.
  • Today'sMeet:  Interested in backchanneling?  This site allows you to set up a chat room quickly.  
  • TubeChop: Want to show part of  a YouTube video but not the whole thing?  Shorten it with TubeChop.
  • VideoNot.es: Have students take notes alongside a video you have assigned.  Notes are time stamped so when a student needs to review, they click on the time stamp and the video will move to the related frame.  Integrates with Google Drive, so notes can be reviewed directly from a student's drive.  
Student Assessment Options
  • Socrative: Great for creating simple quizzes or for setting up a class competition to review curriculum content (Space Race).
  • Quizstar: Good assessment tool for chapter or unit testing.  Allows for multiple choice, True/False, and/or short answer.  Best features: copy an existing test and modify it according to student needs; test grades itself.
  • InfuseLearning: see description in the "General" category above.
  • ExitTicket: similar to Socrative and Infuse Learning.  Major difference: assign academic standards to your questions.
  • Geddit- Monitor student comprehension with this simple interface.  Students can give feedback on how well they are comprehending a particular topic.
